KMDC 5th Anniversary & ICKM Conference Gala Dinner successfully held on December 3rd, 2009
In the evening of the 3rd December, 2009, in a packed ballroom inside the Hong Kong Police Headquarter, KMDC celebrated their 5th anniversary of its inception. The event also marked the ICKM2009 Gala Dinner with over 200 distinguished guests, government officials, presenters of the ICKM2009 conference showed up for an enjoyable evening surrounded by the magnificent skyline of Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour. We would like to thank our Guests of honor: Honorable Ir. Dr. Raymond Ho, Prof. Shirley Grundy, Dr. Albert Cheuk, Dr. Leif Edvinsson and Dr. Edward Rogers for their wonderful speeches at the event. Merry Christmas everyone and we look forward to more KMDC events and activities in 2010. Here’re a few words from Dr. Rogers:

Were you there 5 years ago? The Knowledge Management Development Centre (KMDC) held its official GRAND LAUNCH back on 3 December 2004 at the Senior Officers' Mess, Hong Kong Police Headquarters. Over 100 distinguished guests participated to witness Hong Kong’s first step into the Knowledge Management journey. So much has happened over the past five years as more organizations in HK have embarked on the KM journey with more local institutions investing valuable resources and efforts into the R&D and education of KM. Five years on…Hong Kong is now a prominent regional and global KM hub in Asia. The 6th annual International Conference on Knowledge Management (ICKM) will be held in Hong Kong on 3 & 4 December 2009. KMDC is honoured to be an official collaborating partner of ICKM this year.
In the evening on 3 December, KMDC will celebrate the 5 years of greatness in Asia’s Knowledge Management development with participants from ICKM at the “KMDC 5th Anniversary & ICKM Conference Gala Dinner”. Join us as we take this valuable opportunity to showcase to the world Hong Kong’s achievement in KM development in front of ICKM participants from around the world, ensuring Asia World City - Hong Kong's prominent position in Asia. This event will provide an excellent networking and relationship building opportunity for our local KM experts and practitioners among the overseas delegates as well as guests from all business sectors.
The event will be held at the Headquarters of the Hong Kong Police Force at Arsenal House, Wanchai. On the day, it is our pleasure to have the Hong Kong Police Force, who recently obtained the best MAKE (HK) award as well as the Asian MAKE award and has implemented KM since 2001, to share with us its KM journey. In additional to the banquet event, as a KMDC member, you are entitled to purchase discounted 1-Day pass to the ICKM conference (limited availability). Please see below for the details.

Hong Kong Police Force won the Best MAKE (HK) Award
Our Chairman, Eric Chan and Hon Chairlady, Daisy Chou, both judges of the Hong Kong Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award, had attended the Award Presentation on 21 October 2009 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Hong Kong Police Force was winner of the best MAKE (HK) award. We are please to have the HK Police Force sharing its KM journey with us at the KMDC 5th Anniversary Gala Dinner event.

KM Seminar “Managing Knowledge in IT Outsourcing Partnerships” was successful held on Oct 16th 2009 at HKPC. The Seminar was successful with over 60 participants from different industry learning about the key KM issues in outsourcing partnerships. The speakers approached the topic from three different perspectives (Vendor, Clients and Research) and generated great discussions during the panel session. KMDC would like to thank Mr. Andy Lau, Mr. Andrew Ling and Dr. Louis Ma for their wonderful presentations and participations.

KMDC Chairman Mr. Eric Chan has been invited to speak at Manchester Business School Alumni Event on 10th November, 2009. KMDC members can register for the event online via the online registration page. Here’s an overview of the event:
Extraordinary Knowledge Management - possibly the only sustainable competitive edge in the business world
Peter Drucker was the first person to use the word "Knowledge Worker" over 40 years ago and predicted that knowledge workers would be the key driving force of economic development in the 21st century.
The speaker, Mr Eric Chan, is one of the founding members and current chairman of the learned society KDMC (Knowledge Management Development Centre). He will introduce the fundamental concepts of Knowledge Management, the new holistic management discipline in the knowledge economy. Drawing from a large number of real life examples and hands-on experience, the speaker will clarify some common misunderstandings of knowledge management and share with us lessons learnt & avoidable pitfalls of implementing knowledge management projects.
The session will conclude with a summary of latest developments of knowledge management around the globe and some insightful predictions of social development as a result of knowledge management.

About the Seminar:
The transfer of information technology (IT) functions from a client organization to vendor organization(s), known as IT outsourcing, is of management concern because of the benefits and risks associated with knowledge gain / loss as a result of outsourcing. The theme of the Conference is "Managing Knowledge for Global and Collaborative Innovations". KMDC Chairman delivered speech at a Quality Forum in Macau
On March 24, 2009, our Chairman Mr. Eric Chan was invited by our collaborating partner HKQMA to deliver a speech on "Knowledge Management and Quality Management" in the 3rd Pan-Pearl River Delta Quality Forum cum 13th Hong Kong Quality Management Convention at the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The theme of the Conference was Lifelong Learning, Service Innovation and Harmonious Society. Details of the presentation can be found in the Reading Corner section of our KMDC Member System.

KMDC Seminar "Knowledge Management & the Creative Industry"

To start the new year, KMDC is organizing a knowledge sharing seminar on "Knowledge Management & the Creative Industry". It will be held on February 25, 2009 (Wed), from 7:15-8:30pm at Hong Kong Productivity Council, HKPC Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong.
Using case studies from Canada, mainland China and Hong Kong, the speaker, Mr. Simon Yip, will share his project engagement experience on some of current practices and future potential of KM in the Creative Industry. Simon has over 10 years of experience in Management and Technology Consulting in USA, Canada, and Greater China, with focuses in Knowledge Management, Multimedia Entertainment, e-Learning and e-Commerce. His current position is the consultant of the IT Industry Development division of the HKPC.
